So how do you let Search Engines like Google know you exist?

Almost every blogger knows the tactic, most of them follow the tactic as well but don’t get the desired result. You might be wondering what tactic am this guy is talking about? Well, I am talking about having a Quality Content. Most of you focus on quality content. But content on its own can’t make you rank in “Top 10″ search results.

What make you rank in “Top 10” search results?

It is always good to have a quality content on your website. But you also need to focus on link building. That’s Right! I am talking about Backlinks. But not only Backlinks but quality Backlinks that links to your website, website page or blog post.

After launching the Penguin update in April 2012, Google’s algorithm looks for the quality backlinks that links to your website or web pages. When a new penguin update was released, link building became most significant but also the most challenging aspect of optimising the website or blog for search engines.

Till now, we have come to know that backlinks are very significant to website ranks in search engines. But what is “Backlinks or Link Building”?

What is Backlink or Link Building?

“It is an incoming hyperlink from one or more web page to another website or page”. In a simple language – It is a process in Search Engine Optimization in which hyperlinks link back to your website or web pages. It is also called an Inbound link (IBL). These links are highly important in determining the popularity of your website. It helps your website achieve higher ranking with search engines and drive targeted traffic to your website.

There is a lot of buzz about how Google reacts to non-organic and spammy backlinks. As we have discussed earlier the Google’s Penguin update. According to which you must have to go for quality backlinks rather than quantity. Google is always updating its algorithms and changing the policies. After releasing Penguin update, Google penalises you, if you are using unnatural ways of getting backlinks on your websites.

Being a blogger, I have been through ups and downs with these kinds of obstacles. It is really frustrating when you penalised by Google for wrong activity. I’ve learned a lot of things through hard work and today I am going to share some of the most important Search Engine Marketing (SEM) tactics that can benefit your business. I have chosen the top 10 best strategies that I have implemented. Each one is a proven tactic and has resulted in great success.

10 Search Engine Marketing Strategies

1. Scoop.it

Scoop.it is one of my favourite tools. The great thing about the scoop.it is that you instantly get a good link. It is an awesome content curation basement where you are exposed to high-quality information in an intense manner. Latest news gets delivered to you and allows you to re-share on social media websites. Another great feature is that other people can suggest for content to be added to your pages too. Scoop.it has very neat and clean magazine kind of a layout. A lot of these scoop.it pages have Page Rank 3 i.e., PR3 and more.

How do use Scoop.it?

Choose the category of your post that you want to share, find the closely related Scoop and suggest your post. Most of them accept within a day or two.

2. Finding broken links

Finding broken links needs a lot of hard work and patience. It is a time-consuming process which takes a lot of effort as well. You will have to search for those content that moved because of changed name of the company, website or brand. You might find this method irrelevant. But think once again before you move to the next method.

Don’t you think that this tactic is immensely worth? Yes, it asks your lot of time and effort but in return, you gain these killer links. But how to find these broken links? Obviously, I am not going to tell you to go and scroll each and every website and find the broken link. 😉

Let me show you an easy method of searching these broken links.

In Google search, you can use the following search strings. These strings will allow you find them easily:

  • “SEO” + “resource page”
  • “SEO” + “recommended sites”
  • “SEO” + “useful links”
  • “SEO” + “toolbox”
  • “SEO” + “resources”
  • “SEO” + “useful tools”

Once you find the pages, you need to check whether all the links are working well. When you find broken links, you can instantly contact the owner of the website and inform him about the broken link and suggest your link.

I would suggest you use a Chrome extension “Check My Links”. This extension will help you find all the broken links highlighted in red colour within the page.

Replace the broken or dead links in Wikipedia

Search for this string in Google: site:wikipedia.org SEO + “dead link”
Once you search for the string, you will find a number of Wikipedia links on Search Engine Result pages (SERPs). Click these pages one by one and scroll the whole page. If you find any link in red colour, means it is dead or broken. You can inform about the broken link to Wikipedia. Although Wikipedia doesn’t replace these links instantly, but you have a great chance to replace it with your own link.

Alternatively, you can visit the website WikiGrabber.com and search for the related query. Once, you find the dead link replace it with your link in Wikipedia.
